WEEZER TO PAINT IT BLACK ON 3/1

After improbably topping the Modern Rock charts with an arguably irony-free cover of Toto’s “Africa,” Rivers Cuomo’s resurgent Weezer has set a March 1 release date for Weezer (The Black Album) (Crush/Atlantic).

The project was produced by TV On The Radio’s cerebral groove-meister Dave Sitek in his first project with the band. In another first, Cuomo wrote all the songs on piano. The first manifestation of the Sitek-88-key juxtaposition is lead single “Zombie Bastards,” which can be heard below, with viscous visual accompaniment. Note the Queen reference in the first verse.

Weezer will tour behind The Black Album with The Pixies in a run of North American dates that includes Madison Square Garden on 3/12 with TV on the Radio also on the bill.
