Universal and Blumhouse's 2018 take on Halloween topped the weekend box office, scoring the second-largest October opening weekend of all time with $77.5m, according to BoxOfficeMojo. Sony's Venom set the record earlier in the month, bowing with more than $80m. That one's quickly approaching a domestic total of $175m. Warner Bros. blockbuster A Star Is Born, meanwhile, passes the $125m mark.
