U.K. rapper Dave has entered straight in at #1 with “Funky Friday” f/Fredo (Neighbourhood) on 6.7m streams—an impressive feat for any track in a year when Drake is the only artist to have entered at the top in the first week. It’s also a rare mainstream win for the growing British rap scene.
The track had key support at Spotify, appearing on top playlists New Music Friday UK, Hot Hits, Rap and Who We Be. “Funky Friday” joins just two other songs to go straight in at #1 this year, both of which were by Drake.
Elsewhere in the Top 5, long-running #1 “Promises” (Columbia) by Calvin Harris and Sam Smith moves down to #2, while Rita Ora moves up to #5 with “Let You Love Me” (Atlantic).
A Star Is Born stars Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper have risen to #6 from #13 with “Shallow” (Polydor), while Eminem’s “Venom” is new at #16 following the release of its music video last week.
MK f/Jonas Blue and Becky Hill’s “Back & Forth” (Columbia) rises 16 places to #21, and Halsey lands her first U.K. Top 40 entry as a headline artist, entering at #24 with “Without Me” (Virgin EMI).
On the Official Albums Chart, A Star is Born is now the second #1 soundtrack from Polydor this year, following the five-week reign of Mamma Mia!.
Twenty One Pilots finish one place behind by 2k combined sales with Trench (Atlantic) at #2—it’s their best albums chart position in Blighty to date, bettering the #5 position Blurryface peaked at in 2015.
