The Top 5 Highest-Grossing Films in America Over the Weekend

Warner Bros.' debuting A Star Is Born had a strong opening weekend, breaking $40 million and finishing at #2 behind Sony’s Venom, which had an additional 500+ theaters on its side. This naturally bodes well for the Interscope soundtrack album, which also dropped Friday and is looking like a something, to say the least. But we digress.

Venom broke records this weekend, scoring more than $80m to top the previous October opening weekend by more than $20m.

1. Venom (Sony) $80.0m 4,250/$18,831 avg. (debut)
2. A Star Is Born (Warner Bros.) $41.3m 3,686/$11,191 avg. (debut)
3. Smallfoot (Warner Bros.) $14.9m 4,131/$3,607 avg. (week 2)
4. Night School (Universal) $12.3m 3,019/$4,066 avg. (week 2)
5. The House With a Clock in Its Walls (Universal) $7.3m 3,463/$2,107 avg. (week 3)
