A PETTY PREVIEW

Tom Petty Fan Video

A month back, Tom Petty fans were invited to share photos and videos of the late, great artist and the Heartbreakers for “a very special music video in honor of Tom Petty and his profound 40-year relationship with his fans.” The completed video, which arrived Thursday morning, pairs the assembled visuals with a poignant rendition of “You and Me,” a song from 2002’s The Last DJ, with Petty on vocals and acoustic guitar and Benmont Tench on piano. The track is one of numerous previously unreleased tracks contained on the 60-song box set Tom Petty: An American Treasure, coming 9/28 on Reprise.

Warner Bros. Records and the Petty family co-hosted a preview of An American Treasure Wednesday evening at The Village in West L.A. Tom Corson (who introduced the presentation), Peter Gray, Laura Swanson and other staffers sat alongside Petty’s wife Dana, daughter Adria, manager Tony Dimitriades and Heartbreakers drummer Steve Ferrone, as Benmont, Mike Campbell and producer/engineer Ryan Ulyate talked with moderator Larry Jenkins about the selections from the set that were played for an invited audience of friends, journalists and other tastemakers. The 10 songs included the 1982 Long After Dark outtake “Keep a Little Soul,” which Gray and his promo staff have shepherded into the Top 5 of the Mediabase Triple A chart.
