UMG RUNS THE
STREAMING TABLE

UMG’s extraordinary run on the streaming platforms continues, with a couple of new entries adding to the label group’s momentum.

On Spotify U.S., the House of Grainge holds the entire Top 5, 9 of the Top 10 and 17 of the Top 20. The wealth is spread among the labels, as well: Interscope’s Juice WRLD sits at #1 with “Lucid Dreams,” followed by G.O.O.D./Def Jam’s Kanye West with “All Mine,” “Nice for What” by YMCMB/Republic’s Drake, “Yes Indeed” by Quality Control/Motown/Capitol’s Lil Baby f/Drake and Republic’s Post Malone with “Better Now.” Between Kanye and his Kid Cudi collab Kids See Ghosts, Def Jam enjoys nine of the Top 20 spots.

As you read this, Spotify’s Troy Carter is being feted by high-profile bizniks at the UJA Music Visionary nosh in NYC, so don’t bogart that bialy.

Lil Baby sits at #1 at Apple Music, where UMG possesses 13 of the top 14 and 19 of the Top 20 tracks. Thanks to Kanye and KSG, Def Jam enjoys 6 of the Top 10 and 11 of the Top 20. Those two titles are also the Top Two albums on Apple Music, followed by Lil Baby, Post and Juice WRLD.

Two WMG acts, Cardi B (#6 Spotify, #14 Apple ) and Blocboy JB (#19 Spotify) have a presence on the upper tier. RCA’s Childish Gambino is the top-ranking Sony entry with “This Is America,” now #17 at Spotify.

On Spotify's Global chart, which is less dominated by hip-hop, Post still sits at #1 but another Sony star, Columbia's Calvin Harris, takes the #2 spot with "One Kiss" w/Dua Lipa; Cardi's "I Like It" is #3. UMG has six of the Top 10 on that chart, with divas Selena Gomez (Interscope) and Ariana Grande (Republic) joining the fray. Sony also has "X" by Nicky Jam and J Balvin in the Top 10.

Amazon offers a sharply differing picture on its streaming songs Top 10, where country and pop rule the roost. There the label marketshare is pretty evenly distributed, with Warner Bros.' Bebe Rexha f/Florida Georgia Line at #1, followed by two Interscope sets, Imagine Dragons (KidinaKorner) and Zedd/Maren Morris/Grey, RCA Nashville/Zone 4's Kane Brown (who has two tracks in the Top 10), Big Machine's Brett Young, Atlantic's Ed Sheeran, Warner Nashville's Dan + Shay and Pearl's Garth Brooks.

In the sales world, UMG holds seven of the Top 10 spots on the iTunes singles chart, led by 222/Interscope’s Maroon 5 with the monster “Girls Like You” f/Cardi B (which is also the top non-hip-hop tune at Spotify, at #13). The new Nicki Minaj single, “Rich Sex” f/Lil Wayne (YMCMB/Republic) sits at #2. On the album side, Uni has seven as well, as Kids See Ghosts claims the top spot ahead of RCA’s Dave Matthews Band.
