CHART STORY:
COLE ON FIRE

Dreamville/Roc Nation/Interscope’s J. Cole has soared to #1 on the HITS Top 50 Chart with approximately 395k for new full-length KOD. This marks the biggest bow of the year so far, surpassing Justin Timberlake’s Man of the Woods by more than 100k. Cole has also become the third artist in history to collect more than 300m streams for an album in one week, behind Drake and Kendrick Lamar.

It’s worth noting that, on our Streaming Songs Chart, he’s got four of the Top 5, as Drake’s “Nice for What” (YMCMB/Republic) finds itself flanked by “KOD,” “Kevin’s Heart,” “ATM” and “Photograph.” In fact, J. Cole tracks make up the rest of the Top 10. At #6, his “Motiv8” is followed by “1985,” “The Cut Off,” “Brackets” and “Window Pain.” The lowest-charting track, “Intro” (#16), pulled in 17m+, while chart-topper “KOD” earned 43m+. Stay tuned for Song Revenue numbers, which we should have by middle of next week.

As for the other remaining debuts on the Top 50 Chart, A Perfect Circle’s Eat the Elephant (BMG) enters at #4 with 67k, Lord Huron’s Vide Noir (Republic) comes in at #9 with 32k, II Tone’s 2 Hell and Back (Black Rain) is #13 with north of 22k and Brothers Osborne’s Port Saint Joe (EMI Nashville) is #18 with a little less than 20k.

Meanwhile, as his track with RCA labelmate Normani continues to climb up the Pop radio chart, Khalid’s American Teen (Right Hand/RCA) busts back into the Top 20.

When it comes to overall marketshare, UMG leads with 64%, WMG follows with 18% and SME is #3 with 13%, while the indies claim 5%.

In case you’ve been living under a rock and don’t know, Post Malone’s highly anticipated beerbongs & bentleys (Republic) streets this week. Given the remarkable performance of previously released tracks at streaming platforms, the set is eligible for platinum certification upon release. To celebrate, we’ll be hitting an apple pipe in a Nissan Sentra.

Other noteworthy new releases include albums from Bad Boy’s Janelle Monae, Hit Red/Capitol Nashville’s Keith Urban, Godsmack/BMG’s Godsmack, Sony Legacy’s Willie Nelson and Never Broke Again’s YoungBoy Never Broke Again.
