LEMONADE HONORED WITH PEABODY

Beyoncé's deeply personal and introspective HBO film Lemonade has been recognized with a Peabody Award for "challenging our cultural imagination about the intimacies and complexities of women of color."

Founded in 1940, The Peabody annually honors the most powerful, enlightening and invigorating "stories that matter," in television, radio, and online media.

Released in 2016 and directed by Kalil Joseph and Beyoncé in a partnership with HBO Entertainment, Lemonade's cultural impact has been far-reaching, as it's widely considered a revolutionary work of Black Feminism and perhaps the genesis of a growing trend of notable, powerful black voices articulating the struggles of their own community in a variety of compelling ways.

"Lemonade draws from the prolific literary, musical, cinematic, and aesthetic sensibilities of black cultural producers to create a rich tapestry of poetic innovation," wrote The Peabody about the honor, "Lemonade immerses viewers in the sublime worlds of black women, family, and community where we experience poignant and compelling stories about the lives of women of color and the bonds of friendship seldom seen or heard in American popular culture."
