AMP DEFINITELY
GOING ALT (UPDATE)

As we rumored Thursday, AMP (WBMP-FM) New York and Dallas (KVIL-FM) are both flipping to Alternative in tandem with the closing of the CBS/Entercom merger. This marks alternative rock's first appearance at radio in the largest media market in the country since 2011, as well as the format's return to the largest media market in Texas. Say hello to ALT 92.3 FM, New York’s New Alternative, and ALT 103.7, DFW’s New Alternative.

Both stations are celebrating their launches with 10k commercial-free songs in a row; N.Y. started at 10am ET today, and Dallas followed an hour later. 92.3 listeners outside of N.Y. can listen online here. 103.7 is available online here.

“In a city where alternative music is a way of life, we are thrilled to finally fill the void in radio in New York City,” said Entercom President of Programming Pat Paxton. “With the launch of ALT 92.3, we will cater to the passionate/core audience who have helped define the genre for decades—and we couldn’t be more excited to turn up the volume.”

“We are also thrilled to bring alternative back to Dallas-Ft. Worth,” he continued. “With the launch of ALT 103.7, we will cater to the core audience who helped define the genre for decades – and we couldn’t be more excited to rewrite history.”

At noon ET on Friday, an hour after the Dallas announcement, it was also revealed that Entercom is launching a classic Hip-Hop/R&B station in Chicago via WJMK-FM. And yes, 104.3 JAMS, Chicago’s #1 for Throwbacks, followed suit by immediately jumping into—you guessed it—a block of 10k commercial-free songs. Paxton described 104.3 JAMS as "a station that is designed by Chicagoans exclusively FOR Chicago," also stating, "The time has come to usher in a brand new chapter in Chicago radio."
