EMMYS HONOR MUSIC SUPERVISOR JACOBS

Susan Jacobs, whose music supervision career dates back more than 20 years and includes Basquiat, Little Miss Sunshine and the films of David O. Russell, received the first-ever Emmy Award for a music supervisor.

Jacobs was honored for the finale of HBO’s Big Little Lies, which included recordings by Elvis Presley, Neil Young and the Danish singer Agnes Obel’s rendition of “September Song.” The Creative Arts Emmys were handed out Saturday and Sunday; the 69th annual Emmmy Awards take place 9/17.

Robert Glasper and 
Karriem Riggins won the Original Music and Lyrics Emmy for “Letter to the Free,” which was written for the Netflix documentary13th. It was jazz pianist Glasper’s first Emmy nom.

In other music categories, Jeff Beal won for his score of House of Cards for the second time, and Jeff Russo, a founding member of Tonic, won for his score for Fargo. Michael Stein and Kyle Dixon received the Original Main Title Theme Music Emmy for Stranger Things. Rickey Minor took home the Outstanding Music Direction trophy for ABC’s

Taking The Stage: African American Music And Stories That Changed America.

CBS’s Carpool Karaoke Primetime Special 2017 was named Outstanding Variety Special; the 59th Grammy Awards was honored in the sound mixing for a variety special category; and Ron Howard’s The Beatles: Eight Days A WeekThe Touring Years was saluted for its sound editing.
