NEW U.K. DEALS: CROSSING BORDERS

Warner/Chappell U.K. has signed a worldwide deal with ‘80s hit writer Siobhan Fahey of Bananarama fame; New York band Cigarettes After Sex are joining the Blue Raincoat Artists roster; and BMG has inked a deal with Swedish pop act Loreen.

Fahey first found fame with '80s group Bananarama, co-writing some of the band’s biggest hits before going on to enjoy chart success as the Ivor Novello Award-winning Shakespears Sister. She also records music under her own name and writes for other artists. (In the photo, she is flanked by Warner/Chappell Music UK MD Mike Smith and Peter Loraine of Fascination Management).

Smith said of his new signing: "Siobhan is one of the most accomplished female songwriters this country has ever produced. Both Bananarama and Shakespears Sister enjoyed enormous creative and commercial success. We’re delighted to represent Siobhan's incredible catalog and also look forward to supporting her on new songwriting projects."

The Cigarettes After Sex deal also involves their manager, Ed Harris, who joins the Blue Raincoat Music artist management division. It’s the first foray into signing alternative bands for London-based Blue Raincoat, which has previously been known for its work with electronic artists and DJs. Harris will be based in New York where he will continue to manage Cigarettes After Sex—who released their self-titled debut album via Partisan last month—and psychedelic band Celebration.

Over at BMG, Loreen, who won the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest, has signed a deal ahead of the release of her second album on 11/17; the first was released through Warner in 2012 and hit #1 in Sweden.
