SONY/ATV LIGHTS UP FIVE YEARS AT #1

For the fifth consecutive year—that’s 20 consecutive quarters— Sony/ATV Music Publishing has been the country’s # 1 music publisher. Cohibas all around!

Music publishers’ market share is determined by U.S. radio airplay and song splits compiled by the Harry Fox Agency. The latest survey covers the period April to June.

“Being in first place for five years doesn’t happen by accident, but is a tribute to the immense talent of our songwriters, the amazing songs they create and the hard work of our team,” Sony/ATV Chairman and CEO Martin Bandier said. “It is an amazing accomplishment and one we are very proud of.”

Sony/ATV had a 23.3% marketshare and was represented on 49 of the top 100 songs on U.S. radio during the year’s second quarter. The Bruno Mars hit “That’s What I Like” and Ed Sheeran’s “Shape of You” led the way.

Other Sony/ATV hits included “Something Just Like This” by The Chainsmokers & Coldplay, “Stay” by Zedd feat. Alessia Cara, Cara’s “Scars to Your Beautiful” and “Despacito” by Luis Fonsi f/Justin Bieber.

To retain their standing, songwriters were immediately asked to find words that rhyme with "macanudo" and "maduro."
