3D THRILLER TO BOW IN VENICE

Michael Jackson’s Thriller 3D will make its world premiere at the 74th Venice Film Festival 2017. The festival runs 8/30-9/9.

John Landis, the director and writer of the 1983 film, worked with Optimum Productions to convert the original 35mm film negative into 3D using the latest available technology. All of the audio—Michael Jackson’s music, Elmer Bernstein’s score and the sound effects—has been updated to 5.7, 7.1 and Atmos standards.

John Branca and John McClain, co-executors of the Estate of Michael Jackson said, “Michael Jackson made ‘Thriller’ a rich theatrical experience: fun, funny, scary and wildly entertaining. No one before or since has made anything like it. Michael Jackson’s Thriller 3D is a modern day technical enhancement of his and John Landis’ original vision, and I think fans will love it.”

Deluxe Lab handled the film restoration; Legend3D did the 3D Film Conversion; and NBCUniversal Studio Post Feature Sound with Humberto Gatica and Martin Nessi did the audio work.

Jerry Kramer’s MTV film Making of Michael Jackson’s Thriller, unavailable on homevideo since 1990, will also be screened in Venice; it will be the first time the award-winning documentary has been shown in a theater.
