MANCHESTER HONORS ARIANA

Ariana Grande has been made the first honorary citizen of Manchester, U.K., for her role in the One Love benefit concert that raised nearly £3m for victims of the terror attack that occurred at her concert on 5/22, killing 22 people.

When putting forward the motion, council leader Sir Richard Leese described Grande as “a young American woman for whom it would have been understandable if she never wanted to see this place again,” The Guardian reports. “But no—instead she, as an artist, a performer, was determined that she would not perform again until she had returned to Manchester to perform.

“In doing so, she brought comfort to thousands, she raised millions for the We Love Manchester Emergency Fund and became the first patron of that fund.”

Honorary citizenship is the highest honor any city can give and is extremely rare. Grande responded to the news in an Instagram post, saying: "I don't know what to say. Words don't suffice. I'm moved and honored. My heart is very much still there. I love you. Thank you."

One Love Manchester was held on 6/4 and featured a host of top acts including Coldplay, Justin Bieber, Katy Perry and Robbie Williams.
