U.K. MIDWEEKS: GLASTONBURY DRIVES SALES SURGE
A number of Glastonbury acts are seeing a sales uplift on the Official Albums Chart as Radiohead capitalise on the promo with a new release. The Friday headliners lead the midweeks at #1 with the 20th anniversary reissue of OK Computer, while other gainers include Foo Fighters, Bee Gees, The xx and Stormzy.
Ed Sheeran closed the festival with a widely praised performance Sunday night—the effects of which will be seen Tuesday on the Official Chart. ÷ (Atlantic) is currently down one place from last week at #3; it's up eight places on iTunes to #2.
Radiohead—that's Thom Yorke in the photo—played the festival’s main slot on Friday, the day OK Computer OKNOTOK 1997 2017 (XL) was released. The album is one of three from the band in today’s Top 100: A Moon Shaped Pool is #39 on a sales boost of 204%; and ’95 LP The Bends is #60 thanks to a sales rise of 353%.
Saturday headliners Foo Fighters are at #7 with 2009’s Greatest Hits (Roswell) rocketing 38 places on a sales surge of 285%. The album is top of the U.K iTunes albums chart, rising 23 places since Friday.
Royal Blood, who celebrated Friday at Glastonbury after hitting #1 with their latest album, How Did We Get So Dark (Warner Bros.), are now at #4. Imagine Dragons look set for their third U.K. Top 5 with Evolve (Polydor) at #2, while the deluxe edition of Purple Rain (Paisley Park) by Prince & The Revolution is new at #5. DJ Khaled is #9 with Grateful (Black Butter/We The Best).
Back to Glastonbury: The Bee Gees’ greatest hits Timeless (Capitol), released in April, looks set to enter at #25 after Barry Gibb played the festival's Legend slot. The xx are back in the Top 40 with I See You (Young Turks) at #29 and Stormzy jumps six spots to #40 with Gang Signs & Prayer (#Merky).
Over on the Official Singles list, The Artists for Grenfell charity track, “Bridge Over Troubled Water” (Syco), looks set for a second week at #1. It’s currently 13k combined sales ahead of Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee and Justin Bieber with “Despacito” (Polydor) at #2. The highest new entry today is another charity track—“Smile for Bradley” by duo LIV’N’G. Proceeds from sales will go to the Bradley Lowery Foundation in honour of terminally ill 6-year-old, Bradley Lowery.
DJ Khaled, Rihanna and Bryson Tiller's "Wild Thoughts" (Black Butter/We The Best) is still #3 while Liam Payne f/Quavo’s “Strip that Down” (Capitol) moves down to #5.
