HOCKEY GOES COUNTRY

Luke Bryan performed to a huge throng from the rooftop of a downtown Nashville building before Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final. Bryan then gave a shout-out to label head Mike Dungan when he was interviewed after the first period of the tense elimination game. Tim McGraw and Faith Hill dueted on the National Anthem, and cutaways to country stars in the crowd were plentiful during the NBC prime-time telecast, including Brad Paisley brandishing a recently expired catfish—it isn’t yet known whether he caught it or bought it.

The Penguins broke a scoreless tie with just 1:35 left in regulation, silencing the raucous crowd, then added another into an empty net in the waning moments to retain the cup. This story may not have a happy ending—not this year, at least—but the Predators’ playoff run served to cement the unlikely love affair between Music City and ice hockey.
