Ian “Slacker” Richards is the newly named PD of CBS Radio’s WDZH-FM/98.7 AMP Radio Detroit. Richards, who’d been serving as APD/MD, will continue to host Afternoon Drive from 3-7pm.
Richards, who’s spent his entire 14-year career at Michigan stations, became the fulltime Afternoon Drive host/MD in 2012, adding APD to his title in 2015.
Said VP Programming Tim Roberts, “Ian has demonstrated over and over an in-depth knowledge of the Top 40 format, music and artists. He’s also a natural leader both on and off the air for our staff and the WDZH brand.”
Blushing noticeably after Roberts said such nice things about him, Slacker acknowledged his excitement at getting the promotion, thanked Market Manager Debbie Kenyon and name-checked “some of the best programmers in the industry who helped me get to where I am today, including Michael Martin, Tim Roberts, Erik Bradley, Tim Rainey and Clay Church.”
