SAMSUNG, GOOGLE PARTNER ON STREAMING MUSIC

Samsung and Google have partnered to make Google Music the default music service on Galaxy S8 and S8+ phones. The move is a reversal for the phone company, which shuttered its Milk Music seven months ago and toyed with buying Tidal.

A three-month free trial of Google Play Music’s premium tier will be included in any phone purchase, according to a Google blog post. Users can upload 100,000 tracks for unlimited streaming regardless of whether they pay for Play Music.

The service, which includes access to YouTube Red, starts today. On the blog post, Google stated it would create Google Music features unique to Samsung customers. When Samsung closed Milk Music, the company said it would focus on hardware. Google has not always been a fan of Samsung thanks to its tinkering with the Android system. Perhaps, this is a spring thaw.
