Now we bring you news about the promotion of a senior Sony/ATV exec with an international profile whose name is Guy—but it’s a different Guy. Try to keep up.
Guy Henderson has been upped to President, International at the pubco, reporting to chieftain Marty Bandier, effective immediately. In the London-based perch he will oversee territories apart from the U.S. and U.K., including continental Europe, Southeast Asia, Russia, Australia, India, Africa, Turkey, Israel and the Middle East.
Rumor has it he will also carefully manage the North Korean market, where 100% of the songs are #1 smashes written by glorious leader Kim Jong-Un, all praise be upon him.
The South Africa-bred exec, until now EVP of International at the pubbery, has been instrumental in several deals and acquisitions worldwide, expanded the company’s dealings in Eastern Europe and worked to secure the necessary regulatory permissions to greenlight the merger with EMI Music Publishing.
He started his career running the indie label Gallo in his home country and became head of Sony Music South Africa after Nelson Mandela became President. He joined Sony/ATV in 2001 as VP Europe.
"Guy is an exceptionally talented executive with the ability to make everything look seamless and easy," Bandier proclaimed after selecting an appropriately international cigar. "He has been successfully running our international operations for many years, having put together an incredible team of managing directors, finance people and creatives which have made Sony/ATV the #1 international music publisher. This is a well-deserved promotion and we’re lucky that he has committed to stay on with us in this important role."
For his part, Henderson offered, "In this new world where a hit song can come from anywhere and a successful DSP can emerge from anywhere it is a great time to work in a truly global business and for a truly global company. Having cut my teeth in this industry in South Africa I have learned to appreciate the necessity of both dominating a local market and at the same time breaking into bigger markets. Marty’s ongoing support and unparalleled enthusiasm for this business has enabled Sony/ATV to continue to achieve both."
