GORILLAZ UNCAGED: NEW ALBUM, SECRET SHOW

Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett’s virtual project Gorillaz is back with a highly anticipated fifth album, Humanz, set for release on 4/28 via Warner U.K. label Parlophone. Four tracks dropped Thursday, and a secret show will take place in London tonight. Plus, we hear there’s a host of innovative marketing moves to come.

The launch proper arrived in four songs; “Andromeda” f/ D.R.A.M., “We Got The Power” f/ Jehnny Beth and Noel Gallagher, “Ascension” f/ Vince Staples and “Saturnz Barz” f/Popcaan, all of which have had 1.27m cumulative plays on Spotify in 24 hours. A video featuring all tracks named “Saturnz Barz” has also landed, with over 1.5m YouTube views in the last 24 hours (check it out below).

The first new Gorillaz music to be released for five years arrived in January in political track “Hallelujah Money” f/Benjamin Clementine, which was not an official single.

Gorillaz produced Humanz alongside The Twilite Tone and Remi Kabaka. The  list of collaborators includes De La Soul, Grace Jones, Pusha T, Rag’n’Bone Man, Ray BLK, Carly Simon, Danny Brown, Kelela, Anthony Hamilton, Mavis Staples and Peven Everett.

Besides the secret show in London,  the band are headlining a new one-day festival titled, in homage to their huge '05 set, Demon Dayz, in Margate on 6/10; their first in the U.K. since 2010. Niamh Byrne is management at Eleven.
