APPLE PAID $500K FOR CHANCE MIXTAPE, RAPPER SAYS

Chance the Rapper talked money on Twitter, saying Apple paid him 500 large to exclusively offer his mixtape Coloring Book for two weeks last year.

“I wanna clear things up,” he wrote in the first of a series of tweets. “@apple gave me half a mil and a commercial to post Coloring Book exclusively on applemusic for 2 weeks.

“I just wanna remain transparent. Folks out there without a deal need to know they're doing everything right just keep at it.

“I think artist can gain a lot from the streaming wars as long as they remain in control of their own product,” he added. “I feel like if I didn’t clear it up people would keep trying to discredit all the work we did to make Coloring Book what it became.”

Coloring Book has the distinction of being the only major release never offered for sale that went on to win Grammy Awards; Chance won three in February.

He wrote that his rationale for talking about the money is that people had tried to discredit his standing as an independent, which he has boasted about frequently.

“If you come across oprtunities [sic] to work with good people,” he wrote in his final tweet on the subject, “pick up cash and keep your integrity I say Do It.”
