MOOT ON POINT: GUY GETS BIG GIG AT SONY/ATV

Sony/ATV U.K. MD Guy Moot has bolstered his A&R duties to cover the U.S. market after being named President, Worldwide Creative—a newly created role that replaces his previous title of President of European Creative.

Moot will continue to helm the U.K. office, and, reporting to Marty Bandier, will be responsible for overseeing major creative deals in the U.K., Europe and North America, excluding Nashville, Miami and Latin America.

Bandier said: “Guy Moot is someone I have had the pleasure of working with for many years and he stands out as one of the genuine A&R executive superstars of the worldwide music industry.

"His creative leadership for Sony/ATV in the U.K. and Europe has been exceptional and I am excited that he will now get a chance to fully utilize his creative talents in the U.S.”

Moot added: “Since living in New York in the ‘90s I’ve always maintained a close working relationship with the U.S. and am looking forward to spending even more time there.

"For me this new role perfectly mirrors the industry in 2017 when many songwriters are traveling the world to collaborate with writers in other markets and a hit song can now emerge from absolutely anywhere.

"It means the modern A&R executive has to stay on top of a variety of markets and connect people from different territories.”

Moot has signed songwriters and artists including Calvin Harris, Sia, Mark Ronson, Paul Epworth, Sean Paul, Gangstarr and the late Amy Winehouse.

While at Sony/ATV, he and his team have worked with Ed Sheeran, Arcade Fire, Lana Del Rey, Clean Bandit, James Arthur and songwriting and production team Stargate, as well as entering into a deal with the duo’s JV Stellar Songs whose roster includes Sam Smith, Emeli Sande and Charli XCX.

Moot started his A&R career in '84 at ATV Music and Chrysalis Records. He joined Bandier's SBK Publishing in '87 and moved to EMI Music Publishing when it was acquired by EMI two years later.

At EMI, he was made EVP of A&R for the U.K. and Europe in 2003, being promoted two years later to MD of the U.K. business and President of European Creative, signing acts including Avicii and Martin Solveig. During his time at EMI, the British company was named Publisher of the Year at the Music Week Awards 14 consecutive times.

Following the 2012 acquisition of EMI Publishing by a consortium led by Sony/ATV, Moot was reunited with Bandier and appointed U.K. MD as well as seeing his European Creative role expanded to cover the newly-enlarged company.

Sony/ATV U.S. Co-Presidents Danny Strick and Rick Krim will work alongside Moot and continue to report into Bandier. Sony/ATV’s Nashville, U.S. Latin and Latin American divisions will continue to be overseen by Strick.
