WARM THOUGHTS ON A COLD DAY

To our readers now enduring the wicked weather conditions at various points east—and who have working electricity and/or juice left in their phones to read this—we send our love. Most of us can recall, even on a sunny L.A. day like this one, having to scrape off a car, duct-tape a drafty window or watch the sidewalk hawkishly for signs of a black-ice patch, slipping on which could necessitate a trip to the ER. Not to mention having to sit on a runway for hours waiting to get cleared for takeoff. So: stay warm, stay safe, and we hope we can provide you a modicum of distraction in the midst of these dismal conditions. This too shall pass.
