With 121k for Culture, Quality Control’s Migos have officially dethroned XO/Republic’s The Weeknd, who had spent four consecutive (and five nonconsecutive) weeks at #1 on the Sales Plus Streaming (SPS) Chart with Starboy. Massive streaming numbers powered that big bow.
Valory/BMLG’s Brantley Gilbert (pictured here, having lots of fawn...) follows, debuting at #2 with 79k for The Devil Don’t Sleep. And a new one from WMG’s Kehlani, entitled SweetSexySavage, rounds out the Top 3 with approximately 57k.
As for the remaining debuts, NOW’s Now 61 bows at #5 with 37k and Columbia’s Train comes in at #7 with just south of 31k for a girl a bottle a boat. Meanwhile, Bell Biv Devoe’s Three Stripes = (eOne) appears at #15 with a little more than 20k.
Following the release of his “Congratulations” music video, Post Malone’s Stoney (Republic) breaks back into the Top 10. Speaking of congratulations, we’d like to offer some to our fellow Americans who have managed to succeed as functioning alcoholics since Inauguration Day.
Jon Bellion’s The Human Condition (Capitol), which is currently priced at $7.99 at iTunes, re-enters the chart at #29. Then there’s Grammy Best New Artist nominee Chance the Rapper, whose acclaimed Coloring Book re-enters at #37, and Dualtone’s The Lumineers, whose Cleopatra—discounted to $6.99 at iTunes—re-enters at #39.
When it comes to SPS marketshare, UMG leads with 42%. Then there’s WMG at #2 with 36%, SME at #3 with 18% and indies at #4 with 1%.
Over on the Album Sales Chart, Brantley Gilbert is #1, selling 67k. There, Migos is #2 and Now 61 and Kehlani follow at #3 and #4, respectively. Train is #6 and Bell Biv Devoe is #7. Notably, the Sales Top 15 sees three additional debuts: Brian & Jenn Johnson’s After All These Years (Bethel Music) at #8, Grateful Dead’s Dave’s Picks, Vol. 21 (Glorious Dead/Rhino) at #9 and Lauren Alaina's Road Less Travelled (19/Interscope/Mercury Nashville) at #14.
And the results from the Album Sales marketshare battle look similar to the SPS rankings. There, UMG is #1 with 38%, while WMG, SME and the indies follow with 33%, 21% and 8%, respectively.
Streeting this week are albums from G.O.O.D./Def Jam’s Big Sean, Big Machine’s Reba McEntire and Urban/eOne’s Wyclef Jean. The next big release should be Republic’s Fifty Shades Darker soundtrack, which is scheduled to drop 2/10 and looks poised to debut around 100k at this point. We’re sure the label’s Charlie Walk has already broken out the celebratory fuzzy handcuffs…
