JHENÉ AIKO EXPLORES HER INNER 'MANIAC'

Jhené Aiko has released a provocative new video called "Maniac," which she directed herself, as the ARTium/Def Jam singer readies the follow-up to her 2014 debut album Souled Out.

Darkly lit and taking place in an asylum, Aiko is shown in bondage, wearing a straight jacket tied down to a wheelchair and with a gag and other restraints. Discussing the video's concept to Rolling Stone the singer explained, "One of the things I love about creating visuals is that I get to act out my fantasies. Shibari was something I've always found interesting and wanted to try."

There's also some real meaning behind that sea of faceless doctors who surround her in the clip.

"Ironically, I released 'Maniac' at a time where I had recently been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, so my interest in the research was genuine," Aiko revealed, "the 'Maniac' visual is the story of a mental patient who finds her own cure."

Aiko's sophomore album is yet to be titled but slated for a 2017 release.
