GRAMMYS ADD
A MANSION ON
THE (MURRAY) HILL

The Recording Academy has plunked down $13.5m for a New York City mansion located across town from Madison Square Garden, where the 2018 Grammy Awards may be held.

The New York Post reported—and we have confirmed—that NARAS Properties, the Recording Academy's holding company, has purchased a 9,300 square-foot Italianate mansion at 21 E. 37th St., across the street from the Morgan Library. It will be the headquarters for the New York chapter currently in a high-rise on 40th Street near Sixth Avenue.

Built in 1894, it was originally the home of J.P. Morgan’s attorney John Trevor and is now a 10-unit apartment building.

Part of its allure is a rear parlor with symphony-ready acoustics and 13-foot ceilings. According to the listing made in May, “Musicians heading to Carnegie Hall recitals have been invited to come here over the years to test out their programs” due to its “exceptional concert quality acoustics.”
