JIMMY AND LARRY DISH WITH THE NYT

Apple Music's Jimmy Iovine and Larry Jackson go deep on the service with Joe Coscarelli in today's (12/22) New York Times, discussing the value of exclusives, working with Drake, Frank Ocean and Taylor Swift, execs like Monte Lipman and L.A. Reid, their relationship with Kanye West, the domination of streaming by rhythmic genres and much more.

"Streaming," Jackson says in addressing the latter point, "has ushered in what the new pop is," whether the artists in question are on Pop radio or not.

Asked about the perception that Apple "pulled a fast one" with respect to Ocean's deal, Iovine answers, "We wanted to work with Frank Ocean. We had a deal—we were working with Frank Ocean, and he controlled where his music came out ... Whatever happened with him and Universal is really between him and Universal. It has nothing to do with us. Nothing."
