CHART STORY: IT WOULDN'T BE CHRISTMAS WITHOUT COLE

With an astounding 511k, J. Cole’s 4 Your Eyez Only (Dreamville/Roc Nation/Interscope) bows at the top of HITS’ Sales Plus Streaming (SPS) Chart to become the year’s third-biggest debut, behind only Drake (1.04m) and Beyoncé (653k).

A Pentatonix Christmas and 2014’s That’s Christmas To Me can both be found inside the Top 5 this week. At #2, the former earns 165k for RCA in its eighth week out, while the latter pulls in 71k at #5.

Aside from Eyez, the only other debuts to make the Top 15 this week are Post Malone’s STONEY (Republic) and Tech N9ne’s The Storm (Strange Music), which land at #6 and #14 with 59k and 37k, respectively. Then there are the holiday-related bumps. Michael Bublé’s Christmas (Reprise) glides back into the Top 10, Garth Brooks’ The Ultimate Collection (Pearl) hops #14-10, Jordan Smith’s ‘Tis the Season (Republic) breaks back into the Top 15, Adele’s 25 (XL/Columbia) breaks back into the Top 25, Vince Guaraldi Trio’s Charlie Brown Christmas (Fantasy) jumps #36-31, Amy Grant’s Tennessee Christmas (Amy Grant) flies #50-38,Trans-Siberian Orchestra’s Ghosts of Christmas Eve (WMG) re-enters at #39 and Leonard Cohen’s You Want It Darker (Columbia) re-enters at #46.

Elsewhere, you’ll find yuletide sets from Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood (#20), Columbia’s Mariah Carey (#33), Capitol’s Neil Diamond (#43) and Six Steps’ Chris Tomlin (#45). And since nothing says the holidays like a family trip to the movies, Disney’s Moana soundtrack climbs #9-7, as the movie continues to kill it at the box office. [Editor’s Note: Nothing really says the holidays like spending an entire week face down on the couch…]

And thanks to ticket-bundle redemptions, Red Hot Chili Peppers’ The Getaway (Warner Bros.) sees a +220% surge and re-enters at #36.

As for SPS marketshare, there’s UMG at #1 with 56%, SME at #2 with 23%, WMG at #3 with 17% and (thanks to Garth Brooks and his four charting titles) indies at #4 with 4%.

Over on the Album Sales Chart, Eyez is of course top dog with 378k and A Pentatonix Christmas follows at #2 with 149k. However, on the SPS Chart, The Weeknd’s Starboy (XO/Republic) is #3, and on the Sales Chart, that spot is held by PTX’s earlier Christmas set.

And the results from the Album Sales marketshare battle look similar to the SPS ones, with UMG leading the chart at #1 with 50%, while SME, WMG and the indies follow with 23%, 18% and 10%, respectively.

Streeting this week are albums from Gucci Mane, Republic’s Kid Cudi and SaddleUp’s Nat & Alex Wolff, along with Disney’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story score.

And th-th-th-that’s all, folks! Now, go get festive! Just try to refrain from wrapping your naked body in Christmas lights before doing snow angels in the street while singing “Jingle Balls.” Er…. “Bells.”
