THE WEEKND SETS ALL-TIME STREAMING RECORD (UPDATE)

The Weeknd dominated the weekend at Spotify at record levels, registering the most streams on Spotify in a single day, Saturday (11/26)—and then broke his own record on Monday (11/28). According to SpotifyCharts.com, the XO/Republic star scored 31.6m streams on 11/26, and 34.6m+ on Monday.

By the time the smoke had cleared, The Weeknd had set all-time Spotify world records for most-streamed artist in a single day, with north of 40m, and most-streamed album first-week both globally (223m+) and in the U.S. (124m+). He'd also shattered the worldwide streaming record with 400m cumulative streams for the week, 270m coming from Apple Music. His global sales-plus-streaming total exceeded 1m during debut week.

Republic’s Monte Lipman declared: “Spotify’s continued support of The Weeknd has now reached historic proportions and also reinforces the tremendous growth of global streaming," Lipman said.

“We look forward to breaking even more records together in the near future," added Spotify's Troy Carter.
