Warner Bros.' Harry Potter spin-off, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, bowed at #1 at the domestic box office this weekend with an impressive (but not mind-blowing) $75m. That said, it was also the only debut to make the Top 5. STX's The Edge of Seventeen—the coming-of-age flick that stars Republic songstress Hailee Steinfeld—came closest, landing at #7 with $4.8m.
It's true, Fantastic Beasts' opening number is smaller than any of the proper Potter films, but it's not too far behind 2007's Order of the Phoenix ($77.1m) or 2009's Half-Blood Prince ($77.8m).
