THESE CHARTS SAY THANK YOU

A Tribe Called Quest Dominate With Politically Charged New Album

Epic’s A Tribe Called Quest has topped the Sales Plus Streaming (SPS) Chart with 136k for We Got It From Here… Thank You 4 Your Service.

Garth Brooks’ 11-disc box set, The Ultimate Collection (Pearl), which includes the yet-to-be-released-on-its-own Gunslinger and was bundled in preorder with the just-released Christmas album with Trisha Yearwood, follows at #2 with 105k.

The only other debuts to make the Top 15 are Sting’s 57th & 9th (A&M/Interscope), which lands at #9 with 29k, and that aforementioned Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood: Christmas Together, which comes in at #12 with 22k for Brooks’ own Pearl.

The merriment bringers of RCA’s Pentatonix impressively hold in the Top 3 with current yuletide release A Pentatonix Christmas, which is in its fourth week out. In tandem with the set’s success, their That’s Christmas to Me—originally out in 2014—soars #42-13.

Powered in large part by the viral sensation that is the Mannequin Challenge—a series of videos soundtracked by Rae Sremmurd’s “Black Beatles,” in which people freeze mid-action—the Eardruma/Interscope hip-hop duo’s SremmLife 2 breaks into the Top 5 with another 42k. Simultaneously, “Black Beatles” holds at #1 on our Streaming Songs Chart and hops #4-1 on our Song Revenue Chart.

And as fans mourn the loss of iconic singer/songwriter Leonard Cohen, they turn to music for solace. His most recent album, Columbia’s You Want It Darker, flies #40-7 with 30k, while his The Essential Leonard Cohen (a Columbia Legacy release) re-enters the chart at #23 with 17k.

On the other hand, as fans celebrate the encroaching holiday season and search for key stocking stuffers, Michael Bublé’s Christmas jumps #44-33.

As for SPS marketshare, Sony leads the charge at #1 with 42%, while UMG and WMG follow with 26% and 12%, respectively.

Over on the Album Sales Chart, ATCQ stands tall with 111k—enough to give the group the #1 position here as well. And considering that Brooks’ 105k SPS number was earned almost entirely from physical sales, the Target exclusive also ends up at #2 on this chart.

However, here, Sting is #5 with 29k, while the Garth/Trisha appears at #7 with 22k, BMG’s Joe debuts at #10 with 16k, S-Curve artist (and Hamilton star) Leslie Odom Jr. bows at # 12 with 15k for Simply Christmas, and Nash Icon’s Ronnie Dunn comes in at #13 with 14k.

Also, on this chart, Michael Bublé can be found in the Top 20 with his beloved 2011 dose of holiday cheer.

Speaking of holiday cheer (and doses), we can’t wait ‘til our tree is all lit up… yes, that kinda tree.

And the results from the Album Sales marketshare battle look similar to the SPS ones, with Sony at #1 with 40%, UMG at #2 with 35% and WMG at #3 with 13%.

Streeting this week are albums from Bruno Mars, Blackened/Rhino’s Metallica, RCA Nashville’s Miranda Lambert, Republic’s DNCE and SYCO/Columbia’s Little Mix, as well as the soundtrack to Disney’s animated feature, MOANA.
