FLIPOVER FRIDAY: ITUNES AND APPLE MUSIC NEW ARRIVALS

Leonard Cohen’s death Thursday brings a saddened air to flipover Friday as two of the singer-songwriter’s albums rise into the Top 10 on the iTunes album chart—his latest, You Want it Darker (Columbia) at #3 and The Essential (Columbia) at #7. Death’s effect doesn’t stop there as A Tribe Called Quest’s We Got it From Here … Thank You 4 Your Service (Epic), their final set with Phife Dawg, debuts at #1.

Sting’s return to rock music, 57th & 9th (Interscope/A&M) debuts at #2 on the heels of extensive set-up that has included private shows in New York and Los Angeles.

Leslie Odom Jr.’s Simply Christmas (S-Curve) joins Pentatonix as the only other holiday album in the Top 10, unwrapping at #4. Long Live the Angels, the highly anticipated second album from Virgin’s Emeli Sande, flies in at #5 followed by Ronnie Dunn’s Tattooed Heart (BMLG). In Flames’ Battles (Eleven Seven) is #10.

Cohen’s death has resulted in the return of two other versions of “Hallelujah” to the Top 100. His version is #17 and Jeff Buckley’s is at #88, joining Pentatonix’s recently released rendition, which is #20.

At Apple Music, Future f/Drake’s “Used to This” (Epic) hits #4 a week after its release.
