Three debuts topped this weekend's box office: Boo! A Madea Halloween bowed at #1 with $28m, while Jack Reacher: Never Go Back and Ouija: Origin of Evil followed with $23m and $14m, respectively.
The Tyler Perry-directed chart-topper's earnings mark the biggest opening for the Madea franchise since 2009's Madea Goes to Jail.
Of the Top 3, though, Ouija scored the best Rotten Tomatoes score with an 81%, while Madea saw a dismal 29% and the Tom Cruise-led Reacher walked away with a less-than-great 40%.
It's also worth noting that $23m comes nowhere near Reacher's $96m budget.

Meanwhile, in limited release, A24's Moonlight earned the largest per-theater average of the year with approximately $413k from four theaters. Moonlight is set in Miami during the War on Drugs era and centers on a young man in a tough neighborhood, who's learning to understand his sexuality. The film is getting rave reviews and boasts a 99% at Rotten Tomatoes.
