CHUCK BERRY TURNS 90 WITH NEW LP

Chuck Berry is celebrating his 90th birthday today by announcing the release of a new album next year on Dualtone. It will be his first release since 1979’s “Rock It.”

Chuck will be mostly new songs from Berry, whose contributions to the rock & roll canon include “Johnny B. Goode,” “Maybelline,” “Sweet Little Sixteen,” “No Particular Place to Go” and “Roll Over Beethoven.”

Berry said in a statement that he is dedicating the album to his wife of 68 years, Themetta Berry. “My darlin’ I’m growing old! I’ve worked on this record for a long time. Now I can hang up my shoes!”

Two of his children, guitarist Charles Berry Jr. and harmonica player Ingrid Berry, back Chuck on the album. Berry and his daughter have long performed together in St. Louis clubs such as Blueberry Hill.

“What an honor to be part of this new music,” Charles Berry Jr. said in the same statement. “The St. Louis band — or as Dad called us, The Blueberry Hill Band—fell right into the groove and followed his lead. These songs cover the spectrum from hard driving rockers to soulful thought provoking time capsules of a life’s work.”
