A REVOLUTIONARY CHART STORY

Green Day’s twelfth studio album, Revolution Radio (Reprise), has officially debuted at #1 on HITSSales Plus Streaming (SPS) Chart with 93k.

Mosley/Interscope’s OneRepublic follows at #2 with 48k for Oh My My, and Blue Note’s Norah Jones rounds out the Top 3 with 46k for Day Breaks.

Alter Bridge’s Alter Bridge (#7, 30k), Republic’s Phantogram (#10, 24k) and Jemp’s Phish (#15, 20k) also bow inside the Top 15 this week.

DJ Snake’s Encore (Interscope) was one of the few sets in the Top 50 to get a chart boost, jumping #28-21, as lead single “Let Me Love You” reaps the benefits of 69-cent discount pricing at iTunes.

As for SPS marketshare, UMG leads the way this week with 43%. WEA and SME follow with 31% and 21%, respectively.

Meanwhile, on the Album Sales Chart, Green Day’s Revolution Radio is also the top dog.

There, however, the Top 6 is made entirely of debuts: Norah Jones (#2, 44k), OneRepublic (#3, 35k), Alter Bridge (#4, 29k), Phantogram (#5, 22k) and Phish (#6, 19k).

And three additional debuts made it into the Top 15 on the chart as well (Yes, that’s a whopping 9 out of 15). Those are Meshuggah’s The Violent Sleep of Reason (Nuclear Blast) at #9 with 14k, Melissa Etheridge’s Memphis Rock and Soul (Stax) at #10 with 12k and Loen K-Pop group BTSWings at #14 with 11k.

By the way, us HITS folk were stoned when picking up Mesuggah’s album and misread the cover, thinking the band was named after the Yiddish word, Meshuganah. Let’s just say Bubbie was very confused by the sounds of Swedish extreme metal when breaking the Yom Kippur fast.

This week’s album sales marketshare battle looks similar to the SPS one; there’s UMG at #1 with 42%, WEA at #2 with 30% and SME at #3 with 26%.

Streeting this week are albums from RCA’s Kings of Leon, Nonesuch’s Conor Oberst, eOne’s The Game, Hollywood’s Sabrina Carpenter and Glassnote’s Two Door Cinema Club, along with Razor & Tie’s Kidz Bop 33.
