Universal thriller The Girl on the Train was the #1 highest-grossing film this weekend with approximately $25m. The Emily Blunt-led adaptation of a best-selling book was also the only debut to make the Top 5 for that matter. The next biggest bow belonged to Fox Searchlight's The Birth of a Nation (a Sundance favorite), which appeared at #6 with $7.1m. The latter is a biographical drama that surrounds the story of Nat Turner, an enslaved man who led a slave rebellion in 1831.

It's also worth noting that, this weekend, Disney's Finding Dory became the 27th film in recorded history to pass the $1b mark.
