The Top 5 Highest-Grossing Films in America Over the Weekend

Two debuts topped the weekend box office, as Tim Burton's Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children snagged the #1 spot with approximately $29m for Fox and Lionsgate's Deepwater Horizon, which stars Mark Wahlberg, Kurt Russell and Kate Hudson, came in at #2 with $21m. Truthfully, though, those numbers aren't great once one considers the films' respective $110m and $156m budgets.

Meanwhile, Relativity comedy Masterminds—starring Zach Galifianakis, Kristen Wiig, Owen Wilson, Jason Sudeikis, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones—debuted just outside the Top 5 at #6 with just north of $6.5m.
