O.J. SCORES
AT THE EMMYS

Two new stars, Mr. Robot's Rami Malek and Orphan Black's Tatiana Maslany, were honored with top honors Sunday at the 68th Primetime Emmys as the Academy delivered repeat wins for Game of Thrones and Veep, and showered FX’s The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story with a Bronco-load of trophies.

The O.J. series dominated the ceremony with wins for best limited series, actors Sarah Paulson, Courtney B. Vance and Sterling K. Brown and writer D.V. DeVincentis. The Simpson cast also delivers some of the night’s better speeches.

Malek won best actor in a drama for Mr. Robot, the USA series about the complicated life of computer hacker. ” Maslany was named best actress in a drama for her work as different cloned people in BBC America’s Orphan Black. Another office favorite, Bloodline’s Ben Mendelsohn, got the trophy for supporting actor in a drama.

For the second year in a row, Game of Thrones and Veep were named top drama and comedy series, respectively. Veep star Julia Louis-Dreyfus also repeated as best actress in a comedy, as did Transparent’s Jeffrey Tambor as actor in a comedy.

NBC’s The Voice won the reality competition program trophy for the second time.

Jimmy Kimmel hosted the evening, which was long on Donald Trump jokes, speeches about acceptance and riffs on Brown’s thank you to his wife: “I got the hottest chick in the game rocking my chain.”

Tori Kelly performed Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” during the in-memoriam segment, drummer/producer Steve Jordan was the show's musical director and John Mayer soloed on the B.B. King classic "The Thrill Is Gone" going into/coming out of a commercial break. And of course, a new Apple Music spot featuring James Corden pitching ideas to execs Jimmy, Eddy and Boz aired; more about that here.
