CAKE BY THE ETHOS: REPUBLIC’S DNCE PARTY

Republic’s DNCE, who snagged the Best New Artist VMA Sunday night, are celebrating a U.S. success story that has since gone global. The band has sold 1.86m tracks and earned a TEA of 225k+ in the U.S., scoring 188.3m streams (with 186m+ video views), and seen their offbeat dance-pop anthem “Cake by the Ocean” go six times platinum worldwide (it’s certified double platinum in the U.S.). The U.K. in particular has embraced the track, which spent a month in the #1 spot at radio across the pond. It hit #1 Pop and Hot AC in the U.S.

The band, as you undoubtedly know, is fronted by Joe Jonas. Republic prexy Chopper Charlie Walk signed the Jonas brother and worked closely with manager Phil McIntyre to nurture and build out the project brand.

“I’ve watched DNCE work tirelessly since they formed as a group exactly a year ago,” says McIntyre. “I know they’re especially proud of this award because it was voted on by their fans. This is just the beginning and I’m excited for what’s ahead for them.”

“This is a great example of why majors are majors,” notes Walk. “The combination of gut instinct, investment and artist development before there was data, combined with the power, once it was ready of our immense resources and relationships to launch them globally. Not to mention the ability to medivac them out of any situation with my chopper.”

Team Republic's Monte Lipman, Charlie Walk and Wendy Goldstein and manager Phil McIntyre join the band and Nick Cannon for a groovy post-VMAs photo op. Later, there was cake by the Hudson.
