As was expected—based on terrible reviews from film critics—Warner Bros.' Suicide Squad suffered more than a 67% drop in its second weekend out. That said, the DC supervillain flick still earned enough ($44m) to remain #1 at the box office. Meanwhile, Sony's R-rated animation, Sausage Party, scored the biggest bow, debuting at #2 with $34m. That's a pretty solid number, considering the film's provocative cartoon nature, and falls right in line with 2015's Ted 2 (Universal), which also scored around $34m in its first weekend out.
Farther down the list, Lionsgate's Hell or High Water snagged $592k from 32 theaters in limited release; that's the strongest per-theater average of the bunch. The drama, which stars Jeff Bridges, Chris Pine and Ben Foster, earned an impressive 99% at Rotten Tomatoes.
