U.K. CHARTS: VIOLA BEACH SCORE POSTHUMOUS #1

Viola Beach have been honoured with a posthumous #1 on the U.K. Official Albums Chart. Their self titled debut, released via own imprint Fuller Beans Records, tops the chart six months after the promising young British band and their manager Craig Tarry were killed in a car crash while touring in Stockholm.

“The tragic circumstance that met Viola Beach and their manager Craig that fateful night in Sweden will not now define their lives,” the families of the band and Tarry said. “What will now define their lives and what they will be remembered for, forever, is the music they were so passionate about making together. So from us all, a simple but heartfelt 'thank you’.”

Chris Martin boosted their campaign by playing the band's "Boys That Sing" during Coldplay's Glastonbury headline set in June.

The remaining Top 5 consists of last week’s Top 4 down one place, in order: ELO’s All Over The World (Epic), Christine and the Queens’ Chaleur Humaine (Because Music), Drake’s Views (Island) and Adele with 25 (XL).

Over on the Official Singles list, Major Lazer, Justin Bieber and MØ top the chart for a second week running. “Cold Water” (Because Music) has notched up 104k combined sales this week, made up of 6.54m streams and 39k downloads.

Elsewhere, Calum Scott knocks labelmate Jonas Blue from #2 with “Dancing On My Own” (Virgin EMI) while the latter’s “Perfect Strangers” f/JP Cooper slips to #3. “Don’t Let Me Down” (RCA) by Chainsmokersf/Daya stays at #4 and Drake’s “One Dance” (Island) does the same at #5.

There are a few promising climbers this week, including Bastille’s “Good Grief” (Virgin EMI). The track has climbed two positions to #13, and is currently sitting at #3 on Radiomonitor’s airplay charts.

MØ's “Final Song” (RCA) is up two to #15 and girl group M.O’s “Who Do You Think Of?” (Polydor) becomes their first Top 20 single, rising seven places to #18.
