DRAKE KEEPS ON RULING
To put it frankly, Drake is a beyond-powerful force of nature, but you already knew that, didn’t you? His Views (YMCMB/Republic) is #1 on the HITS Sales Plus Streaming Chart once again. With 83k, he takes the top spot for a 12th non-consecutive week. To recap, this is his third consecutive week at #1 since BMG’s blink-182 momentarily dethroned him at the start of July.
Last week, Views officially became the first album to score 1m in SEA (Streaming Equivalent Albums) thanks to 1.5b+ streams.
When will his reign end? It’s hard to tell. Based on very early numbers, it looks like We The Best/Epic’s DJ Khaled does have a shot at #1, but next week’s winner is still unclear, and Drake will most definitely put up a fight.
As for this week, though, Gucci Mane scored the highest debut, landing at #2 on the SPS chart with 70k for Everybody Looking, his first musical release since he himself was released from prison. On the Album Sales Chart, however, it managed to bow at #1 with 44k.
No other debuts made the Top 15 this week.
On the other hand, four debuts did make the Top 15 on the Album Sales Chart. There, Rise’s Crown the Empire came in at #9 with 11k for Retrograde, Mono Vs. Stereo’s Relient K appeared at #10 with just under 11k for Air For Free and RAL’s Keith Sweat landed at #11 with 10k for Dress to Impress, while Sumerian’s Periphery appeared at #13 with 10k for Periphery III: Select Difficulty.
Let’s get back to that SPS chart, though. Driven in part by a $6.99 sale at iTunes, Sia’s This Is Acting (Monkey Puzzle/RCA) leaped #10-5 and labelmate G-Eazy’s When It’s Dark Out went #27-23, while Sam Hunt’s Montevallo (MCA Nashville) went #31-24.
Meanwhile, discounted at $7.99, Ariana Grande’s Dangerous Woman (Republic) broke back into the Top 10, Blake Shelton’s If I’m Honest (Warner Bros. Nashville) jumped #26-21, Coldplay’s A Head Full of Dreams (Parlophone) re-entered the Top 25 and Red Hot Chili Peppers’ The Getaway (Warner Bros.) rose #43-32.
Streeting this week are albums from DJ Khaled, BMG’s Brian Wilson, Beluga Heights/Warner Bros.’ Jason Derulo, RCA Nashville’s Jake Owen, Epitaph’s Descendants, RCA’s Fantasia, Columbia’s ZHU and others.
In other news, both the Republican and Democratic political conventions are now over, the presidential campaign is in full swing and we look forward to resuming the fetal position until November.
