The Top 5 Highest-Grossing Films in America Over the Weekend

Universal's much anticipated family flick, The Secret Life of Pets, was #1 at the domestic box office this weekend, scoring approximately $103m. According to Box Office Mojo, that number marks the largest opening for an animated, original property and makes it the sixth animated film in recorded history to open with more than $100m.

Screening across 4,370 theaters, Pets also premiered with the widest opening ever. Meanwhile, Disney's Finding Dory dropped to #3 after three weeks at #1, earning another $20m to surpass $422m earned domestically so far.
