BIGGEST SELLERS IN BLIGHTY: H1 2016

The three British major labels tie in the Top 10 of the biggest selling albums of H1 2016 with three entries each, while David Joseph’s UMG U.K. dominates the biggest singles list.

Naturally, Adele’s 25 (XL) is top of the Official Charts Albums tally with 523k combined sales since the turn of 2016. Taking away the streams 25 has notched up since arriving on streaming services in June, the album has passed the 3m sales mark in the U.K.

From Jason Iley’s camp at Sony U.K., RCA boss Colin Barlow is the victor, thanks to David Bowie’s swan song Blackstar at #2 with 363k combined sales and Beyoncé’s Lemonade at #7. The third entry from Sony is Get Weird by Little Mix (SYCO) at #9.

Over at Joseph’s UMG, Ted Cockle’s Virgin EMI has two entries: Purpose by Justin Bieber is #3 with 353k combined sales, claiming honours for most-streamed album YTD with 136k streaming equivalents, and Chaos and the Calm by James Bay is #10. Elsewhere, Darcus Beese’s Island imprint has Drake’s Views at #8.

The highest entries from Max Lousada’s Warner U.K. come from Miles Leonard’s Parlophone, with A Head Full of Dreams by Coldplay at #4 and Bowie's Best of Bowie at #5. Ben Cook’s Atlantic takes sixth place with Jess Glynne’s I Cry When I Laugh.

Over at singles, UMG U.K. boasts seven entries in the Official Charts H1 Top 10, but it’s Warner that takes the top spot thanks to Lukas Graham's “7 Years,” which has 1.258m sales to date.

In close second place is Drake’s “One Dance” (Island) with 1.142m. It’s the second entry from Beese’s Island, with Mike Posner’s “I Took a Pill in Ibiza” following at #3 with 1.058m.

Virgin EMI enjoys five entries in the Top 10, starting with “Work” by Rihanna f/t Drake (925.4k) at #4, “Love Yourself” by Bieber at #5 (925k sales), “Stitches” by Shawn Mendes at #7 and Bieber’s “Sorry” at #10.

Sony has two top sellers with “Cheap Thrills” (RCA/Monkey Puzzle) by Sia at #6 with 917k and “Lush Life” by rising star Zara Larsson (Black Butter) at #9.
