FRESTON LAYS INTO DAUMAN'S LEADERSHIP

One of MTV’s founders, Tom Freston, had some harsh words about the man who replaced him in 2007 as Viacom’s CEO and is now losing a power struggle with Sumner and Shari Redstone.

Calling Viacom CEO Philippe Dauman an “arrogant elitist” during an interview with CNBC, Freston said he has been the wrong man for the job for years.

"The right guy for a job like that in a company that's steeped in the popular culture with young audiences, the person who owns that chair should be somebody who is turned on, attracted to and somewhat knowledgeable about the popular culture and what's going on there," Freston said. "Viacom isn't beyond repair, but the wrong leadership is in place."
