THE CAT CAME BACK

Rhapsody is about to undergo an extreme makeover. The long-running streaming service, which has been obscured by Spotify and Apple Music, will be renamed Napster in hopes of jacking up its sex appeal.

“This summer Rhapsody will become Napster,” a page on Rhapsody.com announced. “Join our global community now to discover more of the music you love. Same app. Same service. 100% legal.”

Rhapsody bought the Napster brand in 2011 from Best Buy, which had acquired it three years earlier. While this is the company’s first attempt to exploit the brand in the U.S., it already operates under the Napster name in certain other territories.

Rhapsody/Napster is offering a three-month trial for $1, same as Spotify’s current premium offer.
