REDSTONE REACHES OUT TO MTV VETS

In her best Sting impersonation, Shari Redstone is singing “I want my MTV” to woo the cable network’s former chiefs to Viacom’s board, according to the New York Post. They’re not sure they can help.

Redstone asked former MTV Networks boss Judy McGrath to assist her in replacing four independent board members at Viacom, according to Claire Atkinson’s report. McGrath said no, citing her role as an Amazon board member. Former MTV digital boss Jason Hirschorn likewise declined as his on the board of MGM.

Former Viacom CEO Tom Freston told Fortune that he is behind Shari’s efforts to build a board that represents shareholder interests and oust Viacom President, CEO and Chairman Philippe Dauman. He is not interested in joining the board, he told the magazine, because “it’s hard to go backwards.”

Martha Quinn and Mark Goodman were excited by the news, but have not been contacted to be part of the board takeover.
