Drake Wins Big at SPS, While Queen Bey Rules in Album Sales

Drake’s Views (YMCMB/Republic) remains #1 on the HITS Sales Plus Streaming (SPS) Chart for a third week, raking in another 241k, as the set goes wide to Spotify and other streaming services after his Apple exclusive. On the Album Sales Chart, however, Views lands at #2, while Beyoncé’s Lemonade (Columbia) reigns at #1 with 95k (and 131k SPS). Meanwhile, Epic’s Meghan Trainor debuts at #3 on both, earning 106k SPS for Thank You and 83k in album sales alone.

FearlessPierce the Veil bows at #4 at SPS with 53k for Misadventures, while independent powerhouse Chance the Rapper lands at #9, following the surprise release of mixtape Coloring Book, which is streaming exclusively on Apple Music and features guests Justin Bieber, Kanye West, Lil Wayne, 2 Chainz, Jeremih and more.

As for the remaining debuts, Ultra/RCA’s Kygo and Big Machine’s Jennifer Nettles appear at #10 and #11, respectively.

Powered by a $7.99 sale at iTunes, Tay Tay’s 1989 (Big Machine) sees a 68% SPS bump to move #47-24 and Sia’s This Is Acting (Monkey Puzzle/RCA) re-enters at #27. On the sales chart, the discounted price caused 1989 to move #40-18 (+137%) and This Is Acting to re-enter at #30. The latter set’s surge is also in tandem with Sia’s Nostalgic for the Present Tour announcement and the ascension of her single to #1 on Spotify. By the way, “Cheap Thrills” has also spent four weeks at #1 on Shazam and recently exploded on multiple radio formats.

On a related note, a 99-cent sale at Google allowed Third Eye Blind’s Third Eye Blind (Rhino) and Goo Goo DollsDizzy Up the Girl (Warner Bros.) to both re-enter at #35 and #40 on the sales chart, respectively. That discount didn’t make for any waves at SPS, though.

Speaking of getting dizzy, that joint we just sparked must’ve been spiked with something. We actually hallucinated that Donald Trump was in the running for president! Ain’t that wild?

Anyway, it’s also worth noting that, thanks to the release of sophomore album Thank You, M Train’s critically acclaimed breakout, Title, sees a related 44% bump, pushing it #50-32. In sales alone, it leaps #45-26 (+81%).

Streeting on Friday (5/20) were albums from Republic’s Ariana Grande, Warner Bros. Nashville’s Blake Shelton, Bushbranch/Surfdog’s Eric Clapton and Columbia’s Bob Dylan.
