The Top 5 Highest-Grossing Films Over the Weekend Domestically

As fans of the late Prince flocked to selective theaters to see screenings of Purple Rain, Buena Vista's 2016 take on The Jungle Book topped the box office, scoring another $61m in its second week out. Internationally, it tacked on another $96m, bringing the global number to $528m—the fifth largest of the year so far.

The only debut to make the Top 5, Universal's The Huntsman: Winter's War, opened to unfortunate reviews, earning a mere 17% at Rotten Tomatoes. That being said, its $20m in earnings, came nowhere near the $115m budget or its 2012 predecessor's opening weekend haul ($56m).

1. The Jungle Book (2016) (Buena Vista) $61m 4,028/$15,095 avg. (week 2)
2. The Huntsman: Winter's War (Universal) $20m 3,791/$5,297 avg. (debut)
3. Barbershop: The Next Cut (Warner Bros.) $11m 2,676/$4,047 avg. (week 2)
4. Zootopia (Buena Vista) $7m 2,798/$2,363 avg. (week 8)
5. The Boss (Universal) $6m 3,375/$1,801 avg. (week 3)

After Jungle Book, A24's Green Room—a horror flick, starring Patrick Stewart— snagged the best per-theater average with $215k from 30 venues.
