DIPLO-MACY

DJ/producer/artist Diplo recently spoke with CBS This Morning co-host Charlie Rose, who traveled to Havana, Cuba, to see Diplo perform with his band, Major Lazer. It was the first such performance by a top U.S. act in more than five decades; 400k+ people caught the show.

“It's the first time [the kids in the crowd] are getting connected," Diplo mused. "I was surprised by how much they knew, how culturally aware these kids are considering there is kind of a blockade of culture reaching Cuba, and it’s going to change a lot, because when information starts to come you can't stop that flow.”

A spokesman for the Cuban government said while the event was good for U.S.-Cuban relations and global cultural understanding, it should be pointed out that if Major Lazer were a Cuban act, he would be a General by now.
